The Centre for Language Sciences hosted a workshop on Language Acquisition in Children with Hearing Loss on Monday 9 December 2019. The event was organised by Professor Rozz Thornton, Professor Linda Cupples and Dr Jae-Hyun Kim, and included Keynote Presentations by Professor Naama Friedmann from Tel Aviv University and Professor Bob McMurray from the University of Iowa, as well as research talks by Professor Cupples, Dr Benjamin Davies, Ms Rebecca Holt and Mr Julien Millasseau.

 

Over 70 delegates attending the workshop including a large number of Itinerant Teachers of the Deaf (ITOD), and researchers from Cochlear, Hearing Australia, NAL, The Shepherd Centre, The RIDBC, The University of Sydney and Western Sydney University.

The workshop considered which aspects of language are especially challenging for children with hearing loss and presented new thinking about the development of speech perception and language.
