Congratulations Amanda Fullerton

Enhancing our sensesAmanda Fullerton, Linguistics PhD student, competed in the Macquarie University rounds of the 3 Minute Thesis Competition.

Amanda came first in the Department of Linguistics round, second in the Faculty-wide round and was awarded joint first place in the People’s Choice award. This means Amanda will progress to the University-wide round.

Amanda explained how her PhD research aims to examine and understand brain responses to auditory and visual stimuli in adult cochlear implant users and how this relates to their functional speech understanding. She is using an emerging technique called functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which uses light to measure brain activity.
