A new partnership between the Australian Hearing Hub at Macquarie University and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network will help provide better hearing outcomes for children.

The Australian Hearing Hub brings together under one roof many of the country’s leading hearing organisations, including Cochlear, Australian Hearing and the National Acoustic Laboratories, as well as the University’s own research and teaching strengths in audiology, linguistics and cognition.
Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S. Bruce Dowton said the new memorandum of understanding with the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network will formalise strong links that already exist between the two, but also help create new opportunities for collaboration.
“We are keen to provide opportunities for Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network staff to become involved in some of the ground breaking research projects underway at the Australian Hearing Hub, perhaps as joint research projects. Their patients would also have greater access to research trials into the latest therapies and technologies.”
Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network Chief Executive Elizabeth Koff said she was excited to consider the various teaching and professional training opportunities that would flow from the new relationship.
“These might range from the hosting of clinical placements and work experience opportunities, right through to staff engagement as guest or sessional lecturers, tutors or clinical educators,” she said. “The sharing of knowledge between the two organisations can only bring benefit to the many children with hearing impairment that we see daily.”

The Australian Hearing Hub is an initiative of the Australian Government being conducted as part of the Education Investment Fund.
