Child Language Lab PhD students Julien Millasseau and Rebecca Holt both competed in the Macquarie University rounds of the 3 Minute Thesis Competition. Rebecca won first prize and people’s choice award in the Department of Linguistics round, and Julien second in the Faculty-wide round, meaning he progressed to the University-wide round, where he came equal third.
Julien explained how his PhD research will help improve the lives of children with hearing loss by identifying challenges to learning spoken language: https://www.facebook.com/CLLMQ/videos/360951024732814/
Rebecca explained how her research on audio-visual integration for speech perception in children with hearing loss will contribute to more targeted interventions for these children.
Julien and Rebecca are currently recruiting participants with hearing impairment (with either hearing aids or cochlear implants) who are aged 4-5-years-old and 7-11-years-old, and whose parents speak Australian English at home. Participants receive a Coles/Myer gift card to thank them for their time.
