We’re excited to be part of this world first collaboration, which brings our hearing partners closer so we can share information and research that will benefit the Australian community. The Australian Hearing Hub houses the Hearing Australia National Head Office, our research division, the National Acoustic Laboratories, and a hearing centre specialising in paediatrics.

National Acoustic Laboratories
Since 1947, research conducted into hearing by the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), the research division of Hearing Australia, has opened new ways in which people with hearing loss can be helped.
NAL is a world leader in hearing research and evidence-based innovation to improve hearing health and transform the lives of people with hearing difficulties. Our research findings are published in leading peer-reviewed journals to make them available to everyone world-wide. NAL works with collaborators around the world on technology development, product validation, needs analysis, hearing loss insights, and novel clinical protocols to address the needs of the hearing loss sector. Several of NAL’s inventions are used worldwide.
We are lucky to have gathered a world-wide ecosystem of collaborators to help us on the journey to translate research into positive impact in the hearing loss community. NAL welcomes the opportunity as a member of the Australian Hearing Hub of being in close proximity with other organisations focused on helping people with hearing loss, further enhancing our collaborative activities.

Cochlear
Cochlear is the global leader in implantable hearing solutions providing cochlear implants and bone conduction implants.
For more than 40 years, Cochlear has been connecting people all over the globe to the world of sound. Inspired by his father’s struggles, Professor Graeme Clark developed the world’s first multi-channel cochlear implant to help treat hearing loss. The Shepherd Centre
The Shepherd Centre opens up a world of sound for children with hearing loss and their families, providing one-on-one support across a range of programs and services aimed at providing sound and spoken language to deaf children, and training parents to teach their child to listen and speak.
This includes access to our First Sounds Cochlear Implant Program, with integrated medical, audiological and therapy services to support child and family before and after cochlear implant surgery; and our internationally-recognised Early Intervention System, which teaches skills in the areas of listening, speech, language, literacy and cognition.
Other services include Audiology and Auditory-Verbal therapy sessions, Child and Family Counselling services, regular Speech and Language Assessments, and Group Programs for children and parents, offering a rich sound environment for children of all ages.
The Shepherd Centre provides therapy to families across NSW, the ACT and Tasmania either in person or via their Interactive Online Services. The Shepherd Centre has seven physical centres – Macquarie, Newtown, Liverpool, Wollongong and Canberra as well as interim visiting sites in Minto (servicing the Macarthur area) and Shellharbour (servicing the south coast).

NextSense Cochlear Implant Services
We deliver Australia’s largest and most comprehensive cochlear implant program, giving you access to leading surgeons, an expert team of health professionals, and the latest technologies, often without out-of-pockets costs. Cochlear implants can be a suitable option for newborns through to those aged ninety and older, who have profound hearing loss.
