Distinguished Professor Katherine Demuth and Associate Professor Mridula Sharma recently led a field trip to a remote Indigenous community in the Northern Territory for the project “Indigenous ear health and phonological awareness” with five Masters of Clinical Audiology students (Maxine Lorge, Chris Boyle, Sarah Simic, Rachel Chow and Jessica Muszynski).
The project, with Professor Gillian Wigglesworth (University of Melbourne, Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language), is providing excellent training opportunities for these students and the findings will provide evidence-based advice for teachers and parents to enhance the language and literacy skills of Aboriginal children with conductive hearing loss (https://www.arc.gov.au/news-publications/publications/making-difference/making-difference-outcomes-arc-supported-research-2017-18/supporting-indigenous-research/indigenous-ear-health-and-phonological-awareness).
